The popular brand Yu Gi Oh!, up to this point was believed to only be an anime, as well as a trading card game much akin to Pokemon. However, ESPN is officially backing this game of gods and monsters as a legitimate sport.

The popular gaming, anime, and manga property Yu Gi Oh, also known as "Duel Monsters," is now being sponsored by ESPN, as the latest sports craze.

This past year saw the sports industry take a backseat for months, as the pandemic affected how and what players and teams could do safely. Thankfully, the NBA Bubble showed we can overcome hard times such as this. Now, after careful legal consideration ESPN is now starting up their own Yu Gi Oh League, as well as tournaments for all who participate. However, some of the guidelines involved in the requirements are confusing EPSN followers.

ESPN is reportedly restricting any athletes, as well as any one who has participated in scholarly or professional sporting events: namely football, soccer, baseball; pretty much any sport that requires serious athletic ability. Only those with a proficient knowledge of the gameplay and lore of the trading card game may be admitted into the professional dueling league.

At this time, a recent study was conducted researching the overlap between Comic-Con attendees and Yu Gi Oh card collectors. A highly volatile marketing campaign has been unveiled, depicting the star players as this "everyman." The overweight, the scrawny, uhm . . . what's the word we're looking for . . . ? Oh, that's it! NERDS! All nerds are encouraged in participating. Recent sales on the cards have risen, as well as fitness centers implementing classes on strategy and meditation to help train fresh faces seeking their "fame."

What do you think? Is this the next big sports craze? How far did you actually read into this article? (I don't blame you if this was a skim read 🤣) Let us know!
